At Amethyst Chauffeurs, we have the privilege of working with a wide range of clients, but every now and then a booking comes along that feels a little more special than the rest. Recently, we had the honour of providing chauffeur services for one of the UK’s biggest comedy stars, Paul Smith, over a two-day hire in our luxury Mercedes V-Class V300 as he prepared for a landmark event at London’s world-famous O2 Arena.
For the owner of Amethyst Chauffeurs, this wasn’t just another executive transport booking. It was the opportunity to meet and look after someone whose career has been followed and admired for well over two decades. From the early days performing in back-room pubs and small comedy venues to selling out arenas and headlining major events, watching Paul’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable.
From Liverpool Comedy Clubs to Arena Success
Paul Smith’s rise through the comedy world is a genuine success story. Starting out on the Liverpool comedy circuit, he became a familiar face at Hot Water Comedy Club, where his natural wit, quick-thinking audience interaction and relatable humour quickly earned him a loyal following. Over the years, his reputation grew through hard work, consistency and an ability to connect with audiences in a way few comedians can. Today, he is recognised as one of the UK’s leading stand-up comedians, performing to thousands of fans across the country and beyond. His long-standing association with Hot Water Comedy Club played a significant role in his development and helped establish him as one of the most recognisable names in British comedy.
A Genuine Gentleman
While many people know Paul for his hilarious crowd work and sold-out shows, what stood out most to us was how genuine and down-to-earth he is away from the stage.
Throughout the two-day booking, Paul was exactly the sort of person you’d hope he would be. Friendly, approachable and happy to chat, he made everyone feel comfortable from the moment we met him. Success clearly hasn’t changed him, and it was refreshing to spend time with someone who remains grounded despite reaching the very top of his profession.

We also had the pleasure of meeting his wife, Lori, who was equally warm, friendly and welcoming. Together, they were a pleasure to look after and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish.
Looking After Paul on a Huge Occasion
What made this booking even more memorable was the significance of the event itself. Being trusted to provide luxury chauffeur services during one of the biggest moments of Paul’s career was something we didn’t take lightly.
For the owner of Amethyst Chauffeurs, it felt like a full-circle moment. Having followed Paul’s journey for more than two decades, from performing in back-room boozers and small comedy clubs to selling out some of the biggest venues in the country, including London’s iconic O2 Arena, being able to play a small part in one of the biggest events of his career was genuinely special. Watching that incredible rise first-hand as a fan and then having the opportunity to provide chauffeur services for him made the experience even more memorable.
The conversations during the journeys were just as enjoyable as the event itself. We spoke about his career, the incredible growth of British comedy, life on the road and the journey that has taken him from Liverpool comedy clubs to some of the largest stages in the UK.
